Virtual Flights is a not-for-profit gaming website that was set up in 2007
as the world's first ever online virtual flying
game simulated with the real world of Aviation.
The idea was conceived and developed by
Nivas Ramanathan, an aviation industry
enthusiast.
It is a network of airlines, airports, frequent flyer programs that exist
virtually around the world. The only real component of this game are the
passengers themselves.
On 12th January 2008, Virtual Flights came into existence through the social
networking site, FaceBook. An instant success, it reached its 14,000th
Passenger in just two months. Sadly, on 28th March 2008, the application was
put offline after the server severely crashed without being able to
withstand the growing user base and success of this game.
Efforts to revive Virtual Flights through FaceBook went in vain when a
second server crashed just 5 days later. The developer decided to then
re-create the most loved online flying game on a stand alone website
myVirtualFlights.com and that's what you are seeing now.
Virtual Flights was developed for the love of
aviation, and is free-to-use gaming website as long as the user acknowledges
that events on this website remain virtual and have no bearing on the real
world.
On 9th September 2009 (09.09.09),
the Virtual Flights game was upgraded to version 3, its most comprehensive
advancement, which included a whole bundle of new features including modes
of transport other than airlines, personal profiles and airport contracting.
All this was with the sole aim of making this addictive game even more
addictive!
We hope Virtual Flights will take to higher skies
as it progresses in this virtual world.
